Why we do it

In 2023, B. P. wrote:  "For years I have seen this door and people outside, thinking it was a place that fed people when they were hungry. And yes they do help people when they’re hungry! As a matter of fact they helped me when I was starving. But they do so much more, they rescued me! I had nothing more to give. I didn’t want my son to know the lights would be shut off and he could no longer study for his future.  I tried everywhere, but no one could help.  Either they didn't answer or there weren't enough funds.  But then I found Erika.  She didn't judge me, she even helped me find job training.   It was the most embarrassing time of my life and she made it seem as if it were just like riding a bike to get the Sunday paper."

One year later:  "I’m a licensed Dental Assistant with a Radiology License. I just started out and I don’t work many hours just yet, but with experience the hours will come. I still may not be able to afford life just yet, but thanks to Open Door and Erika, I'm hopeful. Thank you!" B.P.

January is National Blood Donor Month

7 million people donate blood every year, but that's a very small portion of eligible donors.  Will your 2023 New Year's resolution be to donate blood?

Our  Staff and Volunteers share their 2025 Resolutions

-  Donate blood (January is National Blood Donor Month)

-  Sign up for an extra shift at Open Door.

-  Tell a friend why I support OD and encourage them to check us out.

-  Use my social media to promote Open Door.
-  Donate reusable shopping bags (restrictions apply)
-  Take care of myself and my mental health.
-  Be present and be kind.
-  Treat others with respect and expect respect in return.

-  Spread kindness like wildflowers.
